St. Athans Hotel

There are some mixed reviews on this hotel so I wanted to be sure to leave a good review because I found it to be perfect for me as a solo traveler. It was exactly what I expected for a lower budget hotel and I was perfectly happy! The room was private and the bed was comfy enough. It did get hot but I opened the window (with ear plugs for street noise) and they gave me a fan which helped a lot too. I never had any issue with having to wait to use any of the shared bathrooms. I think some of the more negative reviews were maybe left by people who were expecting too much from a low budget hotel but if you’re looking for a safe, clean place in a great location to sleep then I think this hotel is a great choice, especially if you are traveling solo.

The rooms were clean and bathrooms were clean. Just a reminder that there is no AC only a opened window and a fan. As most of the older hotels like this do not , only new hotels. We were here in August weather was ok. The service was horrible. When we checked in the woman said someone would help us with the luggage as we were on the 4th floor seems like the attic of house. When we went back the gentleman said he was available at 7pm and he was checking people in. There was only one couple in the office and someone else was doing the checking in. He just went back to the office and sat there when it would have taken a few minutes to help us. When we checked out the same thing no one available. Also, in the pic it shows a coffee shop next door. Its not there and they need to take that down. This place is more for young backpackers traveling for one or 2 days. I know better for next time.

It was my first time sharing a shower room and toilet with others, in a building that’s over 60 years old — so it was quite an adventure. I stayed for seven nights, which really required some patience. In most Asian hotels, you get an electric kettle in the room, but here instead they have a lounge open 24 hours where you can get tea and coffee. Since the room was on the third floor with no air conditioning, it was really hot — and being in late June didn’t help. The stairs were also very narrow and made creaking noises as you walked. On the plus side, the staff were very friendly, especially when I borrowed a hair dryer — always kind and helpful. The room cleaning was also very thorough. All in all, I’d say this was a quality experience within what I’d call my “first scary UK trip,” and I’d recommend it for budget travelers. The location is very convenient, close to both the train and underground stations.

We chose the hotel last minute, due to a bad experience with the previous one. But the reality is that it was the best choice, the place has a great location, the room is comfortable and quiet, the staff is 24 hours and very friendly. The lounge always has tea or coffee and is spacious. The only thing to consider is maybe a little that there is no elevator, but we had no problem with our small suitcases. The hotel provides recommendations which we used for breakfast and it was a good choice as well, it is close to bus stops, subway and main train station. It made our stay in London very enjoyable, we will definitely come back.

It was an adequate place to stay, but nothing flashy or great. Be prepared for a lot of stairs in a very tight staircase (should have been in the booking description). Budget place to stay for sure.

Interesting simple clean room in a convenient part of London. Luggage storage effective. Has a four bed family room with bunk beds which is rare for London. Nice coffee and tea room to get you going in the morning.

A really nice budgetplace to stay, no breakfast included, but many places nearby to go to. Nice staff and clean bathrooms, we come back later, that's for sure!

Hotel with budget (for London) prices, ideal location within easy walk of King's Cross etc. Ideal for solo traveller as have single rooms , which are ideal for short stay. Shared bathrooms are OK and I didn't have to wait for one, there is a sink in the room as well. No tea and coffee facilities in room but there is a downstairs lounge with hot drinks and water. Staff very helpful and friendly.
